Our Story

Culture Inc. was incorporated on August 8, 2008, and its director, board members and volunteers went to work
preparing for the start of the 2008 school year. Hardwood laminate flooring was laid in the dance studio and a huge mirror was installed for dancers to practice in front of. Lockers, a commercial sink and art supplies were purchased. Culture Inc. hosted a back-to-school celebration with cake-walks, jewelry-making, painting, henna tattoos, collage, pizza, cake and ice cream. After school started August 21st, Culture Incorporated’s number of participants seemed to double every day. The staff and volunteers enjoyed learning the names, personalities and artistic interests of the participants.

On August 31st, the director of Culture Inc. received a devastating call alerting her to a fire at the center that had destroyed everything. It’s been over a year since the fire, and Culture Inc. has since moved into a new location at 2332 Euclid Avenue. The children have enjoyed meeting local artists and hearing guest speakers on mental health, name-calling, violence and bullying. Programming has included tutoring, yoga classes, recording studio training, dance, jewelry making, painting, paper mache, Ukrainian Easter eggs, vocal workshops, attending the Broadway performance of The Color Purple and more. Since the fire, Culture Inc. has been busy preparing the community for the wonderful things we know are going to come from our youth. Just like the Phoenix rising from the ashes, so has the vision and mission of Culture Inc.
